New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The central government has taken a major step to strengthen national security by introducing strict regulations on internet-connected CCTV cameras. From April 1, companies will not be allowed to sell CCTV devices in India unless they meet stringent security standards.

This move is aimed at protecting sensitive data and preventing any potential misuse linked to foreign surveillance risks.

Mandatory compliance for all CCTV manufacturers

Under the new rules, all companies manufacturing or selling CCTV cameras in India must share complete product-related data with the government. They must also ensure that no data recorded by these devices is transferred خارج India under any circumstances.

Failure to comply with these regulations may lead to a complete ban on the company’s products in the Indian market.

Chinese brands likely to face major impact

The new regulations are expected to significantly impact major Chinese companies such as Hikvision and Dahua Technology. A large number of their products may fall short of the newly defined security standards.

As per the guidelines, all CCTV equipment must undergo mandatory testing in government-approved laboratories and obtain certification. Companies will also need to disclose detailed information related to data security, local storage, and both hardware and software components.

Opportunity for Indian manufacturers

The government believes that this decision will enhance internal security and eliminate risks associated with sensitive data being stored on foreign servers.

At the same time, restrictions on foreign, especially Chinese, companies are expected to create growth opportunities for domestic manufacturers. Indian CCTV brands may benefit from increased demand and a more favorable market environment.
