New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Modern lifestyle often demands long hours of sitting in front of computers, while the remaining time is spent managing household responsibilities. As a result, neck and shoulder pain has become a common problem. When this discomfort worsens over time, it can lead to cervical issues, causing pain, stiffness around the neck and shoulders, and sometimes referred pain in the arms. During winter, people suffering from cervical problems experience increased discomfort.

Cold weather leads to stiffness in joints and muscles, which can also trigger frozen shoulder. In such cases, even simple arm movements become difficult. However, following a few easy winter care tips can provide relief. Begin your day with light exercises. Gently move your arms and shoulders and slowly perform neck movements. Rotate your neck in two directions first, then make circular movements. If you feel dizzy while rotating your neck, support it with your hand.

Using the right pillow while sleeping is very important. Avoid pillows that are too high or too low. The pillow height should keep your head and spine in a straight line. Use a soft mattress if possible and avoid using mobile phones while lying in bed. In winter, warm water is commonly used for bathing. You can also apply warm water compresses to your shoulders, neck, and spine using comfortably warm water. This helps relax the muscles and reduces stiffness. Additionally, massaging the neck and shoulders with warm sesame oil at night can help relieve pain and tightness.

Along with these measures, dietary changes are also essential. Include calcium and magnesium in your diet. Magnesium plays a key role in proper muscle function, and its deficiency can weaken muscles. To increase magnesium intake, consume green leafy vegetables, pulses, nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and whole grains. These foods are beneficial for overall health. Also, ensure adequate intake of vitamin B12 as part of your daily diet.
