New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Ayurveda says that during the night, the body naturally goes into repair mode and all organs rest. That is why it is advised not to eat late at night. However, a combination of makhana and milk is considered like a natural tonic, which, when taken at night, strengthens both the body and the mind.

In winter, the mixture of makhana and milk works like nectar, offering nourishment to the body and calmness to the mind. It contains calcium, protein, and antioxidants that help reduce stress and support better sleep. Milk enhances the absorption of the nutrients present in makhana. To prepare it, add a handful of makhana to milk, boil it with one green cardamom, and let it sit for a while. Consume it warm about an hour before sleeping. It provides multiple benefits for both mental and physical health.

Makhana has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling in the body and support the body's natural repair processes at night. This mixture offers many advantages. People with joint or bone pain may find relief, as it helps strengthen bones and improve flexibility.

Makhana and milk together also help calm the mind and support better sleep by reducing stress and assisting in the formation of melatonin the hormone that promotes sleep. In Ayurveda, this combination is considered a “vrishya” remedy that helps improve vitality, reduces weakness, and also relaxes tired eyes caused by long work hours.

For breastfeeding mothers, this mixture is extremely beneficial. It nourishes both mother and child, naturally supports milk production, and helps replenish calcium levels in the body.
