New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): People usually pay attention only when there is toothache or swelling, but tooth decay works like a silent killer. Teeth may look clean and shiny from the outside, yet cavities slowly develop inside without being noticed. By the time the problem becomes visible, decay often spreads deep into the tooth. Tooth decay can cause severe pain and may gradually infect other teeth as well, making dental care extremely important.
The process of tooth decay is very slow and often shows no early symptoms. Most people realize the problem only after pain starts. There are several reasons behind tooth decay, including excessive consumption of sugary foods, improper brushing and rinsing, low saliva production, deficiency of calcium and vitamin D, and sleeping at night without brushing. All these factors significantly increase the risk of dental decay.
Ayurveda suggests several simple home remedies to prevent tooth decay and strengthen gums. One effective remedy is clove oil. Clove oil helps reduce tooth pain and bacterial growth, which slows down the decay process. Applying a small amount of clove oil on the affected tooth at night and rinsing after some time can be helpful.
Another remedy is neem twigs or neem gargle. Neem has natural antibacterial properties that help reduce bacterial infections in the mouth. Using neem twigs for cleaning teeth or gargling with neem water supports overall dental health. Coconut oil pulling is also beneficial. Swishing coconut oil in the mouth for about five minutes helps clean hard-to-reach areas and reduces yellow stains on teeth.
A mixture of salt and mustard oil is another traditional remedy. This combination provides relief from tooth pain and helps destroy harmful bacteria. Using it three times a week can also reduce tooth discoloration. Along with these remedies, dietary changes are equally important.
Including calcium and vitamin D in the diet strengthens teeth and helps reduce gum bleeding. Vitamin C is also essential for dental health, so consuming a citrus fruit at least once a day is recommended. These nutrients together support strong teeth and healthy gums.
