Mussoorie (The Uttam Hindu): Following heavy rains in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, frequent landslides in the Jharipani area of Mussoorie are severely impacting the lives of local residents. The ground is sinking 2 to 3 feet every day, leaving residents terrified.

Landslides in the area, which began on the night of September 15th, are still ongoing. They have created large cracks in roads and weakened the foundations of homes. Local residents have accused the administration of negligence. Speaking to IANS, they said that a Nepali laborer died after being buried under debris on September 15th, yet no geological team or disaster relief team has yet reached the site.

Local woman Sushila Devi said that every time it rains, she has to leave her house. Now she is afraid to even send her children to school. She is not getting any help from the administration. Even the Chief Minister has talked about providing relief, but no official is helping her. The local people demanded that the administration fulfill all their main demands. She said that if there is even a slight rain at night, she leaves her house with her children. There is no electricity at night. With the help of a torch, she checks that her house does not collapse.

We have repeatedly requested assistance from the authorities, but have received nothing. Our children are hungry. People have warned that if the administration doesn't take immediate action, they will be forced to protest. People are questioning whether the government is waiting for another major disaster.
