Fugitive businessmen party in London as Lalit Modi hosts grand birthday bash for Vijay Mallya
London (The Uttam Hindu): Fugitive businessmen Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya, who are facing charges of financial fraud and money laundering worth crores of rupees in India, are once again in the headlines for their opulence and fearless style. Away from the clutches of Indian agencies, both of them were seen celebrating openly in London. The occasion was the 70th birthday of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, to make it memorable, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi organized a grand pre-birthday party at his luxurious house in London. Mallya's birthday is on 18th December, but this phase of celebration started on the evening of 16th December itself, where full arrangements were made for glamour and glitz.
Photos and details of this high-profile party were shared on social media by international photographer Jim Riedel, sparking widespread discussion. Riedel shared a photo of Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya, explaining that Lalit hosted a lavish event for his friend at his beautiful home. Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Hollywood actor Idris Elba, and renowned fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla were also seen in the photos. In the viral photos, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was seen chatting with designer Manoviraj Khosla and actor Idris Elba. Lalit Modi also responded to the post, thanking all the guests who attended the party, which was later retweeted by Vijay Mallya.
The party's invitation card also offered a glimpse of Mallya's former glory. The invitation card, shared by Jim Riedel, read, "Reema and Lalit are hosting a glamorous evening in honor of their dear friend Vijay Mallya." Significantly, Mallya, accused of defaulting on loans to Indian banks, was described as the "King of Good Times" on the card. This isn't the first time the two fugitive businessmen have been seen celebrating together. Previously, on November 29th, Lalit Modi hosted a party at London's famous Maddox Club to celebrate his 63rd birthday, which Vijay Mallya also attended. This friendship between these two businessmen, both evading the law in India, and the celebratory photos often pose a challenge for Indian investigative agencies.
