Fake godman Ashok Kharat case: SIT reveals shocking details in rape probe
SIT uncovers shocking details in fake godman Ashok Kharat rape case; custody extended as investigation into multiple FIRs continues.
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a disturbing development, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has made shocking revelations in the rape case involving Nashik-based astrologer Ashok Kharat. A magistrate court has extended his police custody till April 1 as the investigation continues.
According to the investigating officer, the probe is still underway and digital experts are required to analyze cloned data from the accused’s mobile phone. This process must be carried out in his presence. The SIT has already obtained the cloned copy from the state forensic science laboratory.
So far, a total of 10 FIRs have been registered against Kharat, out of which 8 are related to rape. Assistant public prosecutor Shailendra Bagade informed the court that the accused has not been fully cooperating in key aspects of the investigation. There are suspicions that he stored important contacts under fake names, making it necessary to examine his phone data in detail.
Investigators are also probing his movable and immovable assets, suspecting that some properties may have been acquired in his name or through associates.
One of the most shocking allegations involves the accused allegedly forcing a victim to drink “salty and bitter water,” after which she felt dizzy. It is then claimed that he raped her. The SIT is now examining the source of this liquid and what substances may have been mixed in it.
Meanwhile, senior SIT officials have declined to comment on reports suggesting that Rupali Chakankar may be questioned regarding her alleged links with Kharat’s charitable trust, where she reportedly served as a trustee.
The case has also triggered political reactions, with leaders like Vijay Wadettiwar and Chandrashekhar Bawankule engaging in a heated exchange over the issue.
Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the crimes and the network surrounding the accused.
