New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Rekha Gupta said the continued expansion of the Delhi Metro is set to bring a new phase of development to the capital’s transport system. She stated that the projects to be inaugurated and the new corridors whose foundation stones will be laid by Narendra Modi on March 8 will significantly strengthen fast, convenient and environment-friendly public transport in the city.

The Chief Minister informed that two Metro corridors will be inaugurated, including the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. With the opening of the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor, the Pink Line will reach a total length of around 71.56 km, giving Delhi the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro. The Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension will further strengthen connectivity on the Magenta Line, improving travel between several residential and commercial areas.

She added that the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new Metro corridors under Phase-V (A): Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (Central Vista Corridor), Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. These projects will significantly enhance connectivity between key administrative, residential and commercial areas and provide faster access to the airport.

Gupta said the expansion will benefit not only Delhi but also commuters from NCR cities such as Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Noida by offering smoother connectivity to the airport and major parts of the capital. She also highlighted that the Delhi Government has significantly increased the budget allocation for public transport in 2025–26, with ₹9,110 crore earmarked for the Transport Department and ₹2,929 crore specifically allocated for accelerating Metro projects.

The Chief Minister said that the expansion of the Metro network aligns with the vision of the Prime Minister to build a modern, clean and integrated public transport system. She added that improving public transport will reduce dependence on private vehicles, ease traffic congestion and help control pollution, while moving the capital closer to the goal of a developed and world-class city.
