Apache Power: India to Receive First Batch of Attack Helicopters from US This Week
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Army's firepower is going to get a major boost this week. The first consignment of the much-awaited Apache AH-64E attack helicopters from the US is arriving in India this week. The first consignment will include three helicopters, which are known for their ability to search and destroy enemies even in the dark of night.
According to sources, these helicopters, called 'flying tanks', are being planned to be deployed on the western border with Pakistan. The helicopters will land at Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad, after which they will be included in the army fleet.
The Indian Army has already completed preparations for these helicopters. A separate fleet was prepared for them in Jodhpur about 15 months ago. However, due to changing geopolitical equations and other reasons, their delivery was constantly getting delayed. This delivery is part of the deal for six Apache helicopters between India and the US in 2020. Earlier this consignment was to be received in May-June 2024.
These are the Apaches purchased for the army. Earlier, a deal for 22 Apache helicopters was signed for the Indian Air Force in 2015, the delivery of which has been completed in 2020. Two Apache squadrons of the Air Force are already active in Pathankot and Jorhat.
The biggest feature of the Apache helicopter is its ability to attack accurately in any weather and even in the dense darkness of night. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art night vision navigation system, which helps the pilot to easily identify and hit the target even in darkness. These helicopters can be used effectively not only in offensive operations, but also in defense and peace operations.
Let us tell you that American company Boeing and Tata also have a joint venture in Hyderabad, where the structure of Apache is manufactured. Last year, an Apache helicopter manufactured in this center was handed over to the Indian Army.
