BJP enters new era as Nitin Nabin takes helm as 12th National President, PM Modi and Amit Shah congratulate
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After a long wait, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has found its new "captain." On Tuesday, the party formally announced Bihar's veteran leader and five-time MLA Nitin Nabin as its new national president. Nitin Nabin was elected unopposed to the post. Significantly, he is the youngest leader to ever hold the top post in the BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself congratulated Nabin on becoming president and expressed hope for the party's progress under his leadership.
Took over in place of Nadda, got support from veterans
Nitin Nabin replaced outgoing president J.P. Nadda, who had been leading the party since 2020. Nabin was the sole candidate during the presidential election process, making his coronation a certainty. Several senior party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, filed nomination papers in his support. Returning Officer K. Laxman announced that a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in Nabin's favor, all of which were found valid. With this, he became the party's 12th national president.
Nadda said, 'The world's largest party is in dynamic hands'
Outgoing President and Union Minister JP Nadda expressed his happiness over Nitin Nabin's appointment as President. He congratulated Nabin on his new responsibility, calling it a historic occasion. Nadda said that today the reins of the world's largest party are in the hands of a young, energetic, and talented leader. He welcomed Nabin on behalf of millions of party workers and expressed confidence that under his leadership the party will reach new heights.
Journey from father's legacy to top position
Nitin Nabin was born in 1980, coincidentally the same year the Bharatiya Janata Party was founded. He comes from a prominent political family. His father, Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha, was also a prominent BJP leader and a four-time MLA. After his father's death in 2006, Nitin Nabin entered politics and became an MLA for the first time by winning the by-election from the Patna West seat. He subsequently consolidated his position by winning consecutive elections from the newly created Bankipur seat in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. After serving as a minister in the Bihar government and being appointed acting president last month, he has now been given the party's highest post.
