India inducts first locally made BrahMos missiles into Army, Pakistan left uneasy
Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): In a historic step towards self-reliance in the defense sector, the Indo-Russian joint venture's supersonic cruise missile BrahMos is now fully "Made in India." The first batch, manufactured at the BrahMos Missile Production Center in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was handed over to the Indian Army today in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This is being considered a major milestone in the country's defense capabilities.
On this occasion, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh issued a stern warning to Pakistan. He said, "As far as Pakistan is concerned, every inch of its territory is now within the reach of BrahMos. What happened in Operation Sindoor was just a trailer. But that trailer itself made Pakistan realize that if India can give birth to Pakistan, then in time it will... I don't need to explain further; you all are intelligent."
Defence experts believe that the induction of the completely indigenous BrahMos into the army is sure to disturb Pakistan's sleep.
The power of BrahMos was demonstrated in "Operation Sindoor."
According to sources, during "Operation Sindoor," the Indian Air Force fired an air-launched BrahMos missile from a Sukhoi-30MKI. The missile accurately destroyed terrorist targets in Pakistan from a distance of over 300 kilometers. This was the first time an Indian missile had destroyed terrorist targets on enemy soil from such a distance.
BrahMos is the backbone of all three forces.
The BrahMos missile has now become an important part of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The Indian Army currently has four BrahMos regiments, which are deployed in strategically important areas. At the same time, almost all the major destroyers of the Indian Navy are equipped with the BrahMos missile. Along with this, the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force are also now capable of carrying out long-range precision strikes with the air-launched BrahMos.
Future-readiness and 'Made in India' capability
The current BrahMos has a range of 290 to 400 km, but DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace are now working on the 'BrahMos-NG' (Next Generation). It will be lighter, faster, and equipped with stealth technology, with the potential to extend its range to over 500 km.
This facility, located in Lucknow, is India's first full-scale assembly and integration unit. It has a production capacity of 80 to 100 missiles annually, with plans to expand to 150 missiles per year. This facility will not only meet the needs of the military but will also become a major export hub in the future.
