Lalu family’s troubles increase in Land for Job case, court frames charges; trial to proceed against 40
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The troubles of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family have increased in the Land for Job case. The Rouse Avenue Court has framed charges against Lalu Yadav, his family members, and a total of 40 accused. The court has ordered that a trial will now proceed against them, while 52 other accused have been discharged.
During Friday’s hearing, Lalu Yadav’s elder daughter and MP Misa Bharti, along with his son Tej Pratap Yadav, appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The case has been registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court framed corruption charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy were framed against his family members.
The court observed that a prima facie case is made out based on available evidence, and therefore the trial will continue. Both sides will present their arguments during the trial, after which the court will deliver its final judgment. Lalu Prasad Yadav may challenge the lower court’s order in a higher court.
CBI has filed the chargesheet
Earlier, the CBI submitted a verification report stating that five of the 103 accused named in the chargesheet have died. The agency has filed charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, his son and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, and several others.
Charges against Lalu’s daughters as well
The CBI has also named Lalu Yadav’s daughters in the case. The chargesheet includes allegations against MP Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav. According to the agency, land was transferred to them at nominal prices as part of the alleged scam.
