Rahul Gandhi records statement in Amit Shah defamation case, next hearing on March 9

Sultanpur (The Uttam Hindu): Rahul Gandhi appeared before the MP/MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with his comments against Home Minister Amit Shah. He spent approximately 20 minutes in court and recorded his statement. The next hearing in the case will be on March 9th.


According to lawyers present in the court, upon arriving, Rahul Gandhi folded his hands and greeted the judge. He also thanked the judge after the hearing. He then proceeded to Ramchet Mochi's shop, where he will meet his family. Ramchet died of cancer three months ago. Ramchet was the same cobbler at whose shop Rahul Gandhi had gotten his shoes stitched a year earlier. Rahul had sent Ramchet a sewing machine.


As soon as Rahul arrived in Sultanpur, Congress workers chanted "Rahul Zindabad!" They tried to garland him, but he refused. He then walked into the court smiling. Rahul arrived at Lucknow Airport from Delhi at 9 a.m. and was greeted by Congress workers there.


The case is eight years old. It is alleged that Rahul Gandhi made derogatory remarks about Amit Shah during the Karnataka Assembly elections in 2018. He had then said that the president of a party that preaches honesty is accused of murder.
