Shibu Soren's Mortal Remains to Be Kept in Assembly; Final Rites in Ramgarh
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The last rites of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder and former chief minister Shibu Soren will be performed at his native village Nemra near Barka Nala in Bokaro district on Tuesday at 2 pm. The 81-year-old tribal leader and senior politician breathed his last on Monday morning at New Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after a prolonged illness related to kidney-related problems.
Many leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi will attend the funeral ceremony at Nemra. A large number of his supporters, political workers and members of the tribal community are also expected to gather to bid farewell to Shibu Soren. Shibu Soren was called "Dishom Guru", which reflects his leadership among the tribal communities.
Shibu Soren's younger son, Basant Soren, will perform the last rites and light the pyre. Soren was being treated for over a month under the supervision of Dr AK Bhalla, head of the nephrology department, along with teams from the hospital's neurology and ICU departments. The hospital officially declared him dead at 8:56 am on August 4.
Following the demise of Shibu Soren, the Jharkhand government has announced a three-day state mourning from August 4 to August 6. During this period, all government programmes will be cancelled. The national flag will fly at half-mast on state buildings and no official entertainment programmes will be organised.
Leaders of various parties condoled the demise of the iconic tribal leader who played a key role in carving out Jharkhand as a separate state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and met Soren's family, including his son and current Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and expressed his deep condolences.
Soren's death has ended an era in Jharkhand politics. To bid farewell to Soren, who was a three-time Chief Minister and a long-time MP, posters have been put up at various places on the streets of the capital Ranchi as a tribute.
