Wife leaves 14-year relationship and three children for lover, husband becomes witness and gets her married
Vaishali (The Uttam Hindu): A rare and emotionally complex incident has emerged from Bihar’s Vaishali district, drawing widespread attention. Troubled by his wife’s extramarital relationship and repeated domestic conflicts, a husband chose an unusual path by arranging his wife’s marriage with her lover and even signing as a witness in court. Shockingly, the lover is the woman’s maternal cousin. The marriage took place at the Vaishali court, where the husband not only gave his consent but also completed all legal formalities as a witness.
According to information, Kundan Kumar, a resident of Ahirpur, married Rani Kumari through a court marriage in 2011. Kundan runs a customer service point (CSP) to support his family, and the couple has three children. Life continued normally until about five years ago, when Rani’s life took a turn after she connected with her maternal cousin Gobind Kumar through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. What began as casual conversation gradually turned into a romantic relationship, and Rani distanced herself from her 14-year-old marriage.
Due to this relationship, Rani left her home multiple times, ignoring social norms and family responsibilities. On several occasions over the past few years, she left her husband and children to live with Gobind. Each time, Kundan convinced her to return. In an attempt to save the marriage, he even took her to Jammu, but she remained unhappy and insisted on coming back. About one and a half months ago, the situation repeated once again. Eventually, Kundan felt emotionally exhausted and realised that the relationship could not be forced any longer.
Kundan then took a decision that stunned both society and those present in court. Instead of opposing or continuing the conflict, he decided to let his wife go. In his presence, Rani and Gobind were married at the Vaishali court. The same court where Kundan had once married Rani became the place where he bid her farewell to another man. He stated that he was tired and chose to stay strong for the sake of his children, setting his wife free.
After the marriage, Gobind Kumar said he believes Rani will now stay with him and that they will begin a new life together. Rani also told the media that she was not mentally happy with Kundan and felt a sense of belonging with Gobind. As part of the mutual understanding, all three children will continue to live with their father, Kundan Kumar.
The incident has become a topic of discussion across the district, highlighting both the helplessness and the emotional strength shown by the husband.
