New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has once again become a matter of concern, crossing the warning mark near the Old Iron Bridge. Authorities are on high alert, although the government maintains that the situation will not escalate to the severity of 2023. Continuous monitoring is underway.

As of 8 a.m. on Sunday, the Yamuna's level near the Old Iron Bridge was recorded at 204.05 meters, between the warning level (204.5 meters) and the danger mark (205.33 meters). Just two days ago, the river had crossed the danger level. Heavy rainfall in the capital and intense precipitation in the hilly regions have caused the water level to rise rapidly, compounded by the continuous release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage.

With water being released from the barrage, low-lying areas face an increased flood threat. However, officials noted a slight dip in the river’s level on Sunday. The Delhi government has opened all gates of the Yamuna Barrage to improve water flow. Authorities have assured that if necessary, relief and rescue operations will be initiated in affected areas.

In Delhi, the warning level for the Yamuna is 204.5 meters, the danger level is 205.3 meters, and evacuation begins at 206 meters. The Old Railway Bridge remains a critical point for monitoring the river’s flow and flood risk.
