Big warning from Trump, Strait of Hormuz to open regardless of Iran’s stance
Ahead of negotiations, Donald Trump signals a tough stance, saying the Strait of Hormuz will reopen regardless of Iran’s cooperation.
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has said that American representatives will hold talks with Iran in Pakistan regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed confidence that the crucial global oil route will reopen soon and stated that it would happen automatically, regardless of whether Iran cooperates. He added that if it does not happen quickly, the United States will ensure it is done.
Trump said his primary objective in any agreement with Iran is to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons, calling it the most critical issue. He also claimed that Iran currently has limited options and is attempting to use the Strait of Hormuz as a tool to exert temporary pressure on the global community. Meanwhile, Iran has said its military is on high alert, citing repeated breaches of trust by the US and Israel.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated that Iran is trying to leverage international waterways for short-term gains. He also warned that US warships are being re-armed and could launch fresh strikes if the talks fail. Earlier, he indicated that the outcome of the negotiations could become clear within 24 hours. Although all sides have claimed success in the recent conflict, experts believe the ceasefire remains fragile and deep-rooted differences could hinder a lasting peace agreement.
