Back pain from desk jobs? Try ‘Urdhva Mukha Svanasana’ for relief.
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana strengthens the spine, relieves back pain and helps desk workers reduce stress and fatigue.
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, commonly known as the Upward Facing Dog Pose, is a powerful yoga posture that improves strength and flexibility in the body. Regular practice helps energize the body, strengthen the spine and expand the chest and lungs. The pose also enhances the strength of the back, shoulders and arms while helping reduce mental stress.
This posture is an important part of Surya Namaskar and is usually performed in its seventh step, sometimes in place of or after Bhujangasana following Ashtanga Namaskar. The pose stretches the front part of the body, strengthens spinal muscles and helps open the chest. It also improves flexibility in the waist and shoulders.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, this yoga pose is highly beneficial for maintaining spinal health and reducing fatigue. Regular practice can also support better digestion and help people dealing with breathing problems like asthma. The pose is particularly helpful for people who sit for long hours at work, such as desk workers. However, individuals with previous knee, hip or back injuries and pregnant women are advised to practice it only after consulting a doctor or yoga expert.
