New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The announcement of a ceasefire in Iran is being widely praised. US President Donald Trump announced this through an official Truth Social post. Iran has also expressed its temporary agreement for a two-week truce. Amid the changed geopolitical situation, answers to some questions are being sought. Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Elahi, the Iranian Supreme Leader's representative in India, explained Iran's thinking and efforts. In an exclusive interview with IANS, Elahi clearly stated that Iran did not want this conflict and has never been a supporter of nuclear weapons.

Dr. Ilahi believes the US was forced to call a ceasefire. He listed the reasons for this. He said, “The US was forced to declare a ceasefire because they could no longer continue the war. They made a grave mistake. For the past 41 days, they wanted to stop the war, but they couldn't. Finally, when they realized they couldn't continue and were facing further losses, they declared a ceasefire.”

"I think we didn't want a war from the beginning. It was a war that was forced upon us. Secondly, we realized that this war had harmed many different people from different countries, and we didn't want that," Elahi said.

When asked if he believed a ceasefire could lead to a lasting solution, the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader said, "With our conditions, if they accept our conditions, then yes, that will be the end of this war."

What is Iran's position on the US accusation that Iran is engaged in uranium enrichment? Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Elahi, recalling his Supreme Leader's words, said, "...from the very beginning, perhaps 30 years ago or more, our Supreme Leader clearly declared that nuclear weapons are forbidden according to our religion, we cannot have them. We do not want them, we did not want them, we do not want them now, and we will not want them in the future, never. We do not want nuclear weapons, and everyone knows this."

What caused the crisis? Gulf countries have also leveled some accusations against Iran. Regarding this, Elahi said, "Conflicts and crises in this region began when the US arrived from 7,000 miles away and brought many conflicts and difficulties to the region. This is the first point. The second thing I want to declare is that we know that the US does not attack us from New York, California, or Washington. Where are the bases used by the US to attack us? Absolutely, those bases were in this Arab country."

Iran hopes the world has realized that provoking this region could harm not just one person but the entire world. Elahi expressed hope that the global crisis will end. He said, "I hope this global crisis will end, but other countries realize that if there is conflict and crisis in this Gulf, the Persian Gulf, they will suffer losses. Therefore, they must now speak out together and prevent any country from attacking this region."
