BJP Actively Shielding Majithia; Central Agencies Interfering Unnecessarily in Investigations: Tarunpreet Sondh

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh held a press conference on Tuesday, addressing the matter of the investigation into the illegal properties and wealth amassed by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Sondh accused the BJP-led central government of obstructing Punjab’s efforts to bring Majithia to justice and raised serious concerns about the motives behind such actions.

Minister Sondh revealed that Punjab Vigilance is conducting an in-depth investigation into Majithia’s disproportionate assets and their funding sources. He stated, “Punjab Police, in full legal compliance, went Delhi to conduct raids on Majithia’s properties to collect documents and evidence. However, the Delhi Police, which operates under the BJP, denied Punjab Police permission to conduct these raids.”

The Minister questioned the BJP’s intentions, asking, “Is the BJP now actively aiding Bikram Majithia? Are they shielding him in exchange for political gains?”

He went further, alleging that BJP has struck a secret deal with Majithia to save him in return for his future allegiance to the party. “We have received credible reports that the BJP has assured Majithia of their support in his case, with the condition that he joins BJP and in the coming days BJP wants alliance with the SAD,” Sondh said.

Highlighting the irony of opposition leaders like Charanjit Singh Channi, Partap Bajwa, and Ravneet Bittu coming to Majithia’s defense, Sondh reminded the public of their past rhetoric against SAD leaders. “In 2017, when the SAD government was ousted, these leaders claimed they would drag Majithia and send him to the jail. Now, they are defending him, exposing their hypocrisy,” he remarked.

Sondh reaffirmed the Aam Aadmi Party’s unwavering commitment to fighting drugs and corruption in Punjab, a mission endorsed by the people in the 2022 elections. “We promised to eradicate drugs, and we have targeted the big fish responsible. But now, these very leaders are taking U-turns because they can’t bear to see real accountability,” he said.

Taking a dig at the opposition leaders, Sondh asked them to clarify their stance on Majithia: “Are they in favour of Majithia or they are on Punjab's side? They must stop their chameleon-like behavior.”

The Minister also appealed to the people of Punjab to stay vigilant against political conspiracies. He criticized the BJP and opposition leaders for creating hurdles in the state’s anti-drug war and supporting individuals who have caused irreparable harm to Punjab’s youth.

Sondh concluded, “The BJP’s true face has once again been exposed. Punjab Police, ready to conduct raids on Majithia’s Delhi properties, was blocked by the Delhi Police under BJP’s control. This is evidence of BJP’s collusion with Majithia. In the coming days, we will see Majithia, along with SAD leaders, forming an alliance with the BJP to protect their vested interests. This is a betrayal of Punjab’s people.”
