Big relief for farmers: Centre releases 21st installment of PM Kisan early in 3 states including Punjab
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The central government has provided significant relief to farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh affected by recent devastating floods and landslides. On Friday, September 26th, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) into the bank accounts of all eligible farmers in these three states ahead of schedule.
This decision has benefited more than 2.7 million farmers in the three states, who have received direct transfers of ₹2,000 each into their accounts. According to the Agriculture Ministry, a total of over ₹540 crore has been transferred, including to 2.7 lakh women farmers.
While releasing the amount into the accounts of farmers, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “This money will help farmers in meeting their immediate domestic needs, purchasing seeds and fertilizers for the next sowing and getting farming back on track.”
It is worth noting that the government had released the 20th installment of PM Kisan on August 2 itself, but considering the huge losses caused by the disaster in these three states, the 21st installment has been paid well ahead of time.
Under the scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2019, eligible farmers across the country are given financial assistance of Rs 6,000 every year in three equal installments, which is deposited directly into their bank accounts.
