Big Relief for Students: Punjab Govt to Send Youth Abroad with Full Scholarship & ₹13 Lakh Annual Allowance
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, has made a historic announcement for students of the state. She revealed that in the past three years, the number of beneficiaries under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme has increased by 35%. Now, taking a major step forward, the state government is set to launch an Overseas Scholarship Scheme that will help Punjab’s youth pursue higher education abroad.
According to Dr. Kaur, this scheme will benefit students whose family income is below ₹8 lakh per year, who have scored more than 60% marks, and are under 35 years of age. Notably, 30% of the seats will be reserved for girls.
Admission to 500 Global Universities
The Punjab government has shortlisted 500 prestigious universities across the world. Under the scheme, selected students will receive financial assistance covering visa expenses, airfare, tuition fees, medical insurance, and a yearly maintenance allowance of ₹13.17 lakh. This support will continue for the entire duration of their course, whether it is three years or four years. However, only two children from one family will be eligible.
Dr. Kaur emphasized that the scheme is aimed at students from poor and middle-class families who dream of building a better future abroad. A special online portal will soon be launched where students can choose their desired university and apply.
In addition, Dr. Kaur announced that a PCS preparation course will soon begin at Ambedkar College in Mohali, where 40 students will be selected through an entrance test and provided with two months of intensive training.
