Jaswant Singh, stranded abroad for 16 years, returns safely to India thanks to Khanna's efforts
Hoshiarpur (The Uttam Hindu): : Jaswant Singh, a resident of Ghaghon Rodanwali village in Garhshankar block, who had been stranded abroad for nearly 16 years has returned safely to India thanks to the efforts of former MP Avinash Rai Khanna and the swift action of the Indian government.
Addressing a press conference, Avinash Rai Khanna said that Jaswant Singh had initially gone to Italy in search of employment, and later moved to Austria. Due to a dispute in Austria, the police confiscated his passport, leaving him stranded and unable to return to India.
He said that Jaswant Singh's family had made every effort on their own, but without success. Following this, Jaswant Singh's father, Karnail Singh, contacted him, explained the entire situation, and requested his help in bringing his son back to India safely.
Khanna said that he immediately brought the matter to the attention of the central government through correspondence and assured them of Jaswant Singh's safe return home. As a result of the Indian government's prompt action, Jaswant Singh was able to return to his homeland after a long period of 16 years.
Avinash Rai Khanna expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for their cooperation and appealed to the general public to provide accurate information to the embassy when traveling abroad and to travel only through valid and proper procedures. He said that the Indian government is continuously ready to assist Indians living abroad and has also launched a special assistance portal for this purpose.
He appealed through the media that if any Indian citizen is stranded abroad or facing any difficulties, they or their family members can contact his office in India so that the matter can be brought to the attention of the Indian government and necessary assistance can be provided.
On this occasion, Khanna also thanked the media present.
