From carpenter to KBC hot seat: Jalandhar’s Chhinderpal bags ₹50 lakh

Jalandhar / Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The September 18 episode of Sony TV’s Kaun Banega Crorepati turned into a historic moment for Punjab when Chhinderpal, a carpenter from Hussainpur village in Lambra town of Jalandhar district won ₹50 lakh on the hot seat. His remarkable victory brought pride not only to his family but also to his entire village.

Chhinderpal’s life has been marked by hardship and struggle yet he never gave up on his interest in education and general knowledge. On the show, his confidence and sharp mind impressed host Amitabh Bachchan, who praised him for his vision and determination. Chhinderpal answered questions up to ₹25 lakh with grit using lifelines wisel, and stunned everyone by correctly answering the ₹50 lakh question without any lifeline.

When faced with the ₹1 crore question on which island George Everest surveyed between 1814 and 1816 he chose to quit securing ₹50 lakh. The correct answer was Java. Back in Hussainpur news of his victory sparked celebrations. Villagers hailed him as an inspiration and Chhinderpal himself said the prize money would go towards fulfilling his dreams and ensuring quality education for his children.
