Punjab Police is fighting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism - Bhagwant Singh Mann
Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said today that as a border state, Punjab faces threats from Pakistan every day. The state is facing nefarious designs being hatched by anti-social elements and drone intrusions to vitiate the atmosphere of the state. He said that the Punjab Police is standing steadfastly to protect the international border and that the Punjab Police is not only the police of Punjab but of the entire country, performing its duty.
To further strengthen law and order in the state, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today formally inducted 2,577 new police personnel into the Punjab Police during a passing out parade held at the PAP Ground in Jalandhar. This initiative by the Chief Minister demonstrated the state government's dual commitment to creating employment opportunities for youth and modernizing the police force.
Describing the Punjab Police recruitment drive as a key part of the AAP government's employment revolution, the Chief Minister said that more than 12,010 police personnel have been recruited since March 2022. ₹1,100 crore has been earmarked for upgrading the force on scientific methods, and cutting-edge measures, including artificial intelligence, special technical units, and a robust anti-narcotics task force, are being implemented to combat cybercrime, terrorism, and drugs.
Citing 50,238 arrests under the 'War Against Drugs' campaign and 46,399 lives saved by the Road Safety Force, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that Punjab is witnessing record recruitment, rapid technological upgradation, and unprecedented action against crime, which bear testimony to his government's determination to ensure peace and stability in Punjab.
Sharing some glimpses of the ceremony on X, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It was an honor to attend the prestigious Passing-Out Parade of the Punjab Police in Jalandhar today. A total of 2,577 new, highly inspiring officers formally joined the Punjab Police family. Congratulations to all of them. Under our government's leadership, a record recruitment of over 12,000 personnel has been set, high-tech units have been established, and a strict campaign against drug abuse is underway. We are fully committed to ensuring the security and peace of Punjab. Jai Hind.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Since assuming office, I have placed special emphasis on upgrading the Punjab Police on a scientific basis, and Rs. 1,100 crore has been earmarked for this purpose.” He further said, “It is a matter of immense pride that the Punjab Police has been equipped with modern equipment to face every challenge and maintain the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the country.”
Referring to the challenges facing Punjab, the Chief Minister said, “Being a border state, the Punjab Police is performing its duties with utmost diligence.”
Expressing his happiness at attending the ceremony, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “I am very happy to be at the Punjab Armed Police Campus for the Passing Out Parade.” He further said, “A total of 2,577 soldiers and officers from various cadres of the Punjab Police are participating in today's Passing Out Parade. This parade marks the completion of their basic training, and all these police personnel will be deployed to various districts for duty.”
Speaking on the importance of police training centers, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These newly recruited police personnel of various ranks have received training at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, the Police Recruit Training Center, Jahan Khelan (Hoshiarpur), and the In-Service Training Center, Kapurthala.”
He further said, “Since March 2022, the Punjab Government has issued appointment letters to over 12,010 police personnel across various cadres and ranks. These include 1,062 sub-inspectors, 450 head constables, 10,098 constables, and 400 civilian staff who have received training at various Punjab Police training centers.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the recruitment process has been continuous under the current government. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Since our government came to power, the Punjab Police recruitment process has continued every year. Consequently, the basic training for over 1,900 recruits from 2025 began in March 2026. Similarly, the recruitment process for 1,746 constables is almost complete, and they will be issued appointment letters soon.” He further said, “The 3,400 police personnel to be recruited in 2026
