Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): During his visit to Punjab marking the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat interacted with representatives from various sections of society and shared his views on several contemporary issues.

“Three children necessary in national interest”

Speaking on changing population patterns in the country, Bhagwat said that several studies suggest having three children in a family may help maintain demographic balance. He expressed concern that birth rates are declining in some communities while increasing in others, which could raise long-term balance issues.

Concern over drug problem in Punjab

He also expressed serious concern over the rising drug issue in Punjab. According to him, loneliness is a major factor pushing youth towards substance abuse or even suicide.

He appealed to parents to spend more time with their children, understand their emotional struggles and failures, and maintain open communication. He suggested that stronger involvement of families and society can play a key role in keeping youth away from addiction.

Opinion on marriage age

Bhagwat also shared his view on the ideal age of marriage, stating that getting married between 19 and 25 years may help ensure family stability and strengthen social harmony.

“Hindu is a way of life”

On religion, he said that Hindu is not a narrow religious identity but a way of life. He added that Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist traditions have evolved independently with their own beliefs, and mutual respect remains the core of Indian tradition.

Call to understand RSS

Concluding his address, he encouraged people to understand the RSS by visiting its branches, joining its projects, or participating in social service activities. He said selfless service to society is the simplest way to understand the organisation’s core values.
