New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Hardik Pandya has landed in controversy following celebrations of India’s ICC Men's T20 World Cup victory. A complaint has been filed against the star all-rounder alleging disrespect toward the national flag during the post-match celebrations.
The complaint was submitted by Pune-based lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar, who has sought legal action and demanded that an FIR be registered. According to the complaint, videos circulating on social media show Pandya celebrating on the field with the Indian tricolour draped over his shoulders. The complainant alleged that in one clip the cricketer was seen lying down during celebrations while still wearing the national flag, which he claimed was disrespectful to its dignity.
Bidkar argued that every citizen is responsible for maintaining respect for the national flag and cited the relevant law protecting its dignity. He also said that although police initially raised jurisdiction issues, his complaint was accepted, and he is now awaiting further action in the matter.
