New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad during the ongoing fifth Test match between India and England at London’s Kennington Oval. The announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of Day 2’s play. Bumrah, who did not feature in the playing XI for this Test, has been rested by the management as part of workload monitoring.

Bumrah played a key role in the series, taking 14 wickets across the first three matches. However, during the fourth Test in Manchester, his pace and rhythm showed slight decline, raising concerns about overexertion. Considering his history of back injuries, BCCI and the medical team recommended rest to avoid long-term damage. As per team sources, it was already decided in advance that Bumrah would play only three out of the five Tests in this high-stakes series.

To fill the gap in the pace attack, Akash Deep has been drafted into the squad. The right-arm quick has recently recovered from an injury and is now fit to take the field. His inclusion adds fresh energy to the bowling lineup as India looks to seal the series with a strong performance in the final match.

Bumrah’s absence may impact the balance of the team, but the management has prioritized player well-being over short-term gains. The decision reflects the team’s cautious approach to injury prevention, especially with more international fixtures scheduled in the coming months.
