Mitchell, Phillips smash centuries, NZ sets India 338-run target
Indore (The Uttam Hindu) : With the help of explosive century innings of Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand has given a target of 338 runs to the Indian team to win in the match being played at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
In the third and decisive match of the series, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh gave India a solid start, leaving New Zealand in trouble with the wickets falling for 2 for 5 and 3 for 58. From there, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips took charge, adding a superb 219-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the team to 337 for 8 in 50 overs. The final few overs were not as expected, or the total could have gone above 360.
Daryl Mitchell scored the ninth century of his ODI career. This is Mitchell's fourth century against India and second consecutive century in the series. Mitchell scored 137 runs in 131 balls with 3 sixes and 15 fours. Glenn Phillips also scored a century. This was the second century of Phillips' career. Phillips played an innings of 106 runs in 88 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes. Will Young scored 30 and captain Michael Bracewell scored 28 not out.
For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana took 3 wickets each. Harshit was a bit expensive, conceding 84 runs in 10 overs. Arshdeep conceded 63 runs.
