Elon Musk unveils AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia, claims superior accuracy and objectivity
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Tesla and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk has launched GrokiPedia, a new AI-based online encyclopedia platform. Calling it a “truth-based alternative to Wikipedia,” Musk claimed it will become the most trusted source of information on the internet in the future.
What is GrokiPedia?
GrokiPedia is an AI-powered open-source encyclopedia developed by Musk's team. Its aim is to provide factual and unbiased information to users. Currently, its initial version 0.1 has been released, which includes approximately 8.85 lakh articles. Currently, users can only access information through the search bar. Interestingly, these articles cannot be edited by human users; instead, Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, will be responsible for updating and modifying them.
Elon Musk's claim:
Announcing the launch of GrokiPedia, Musk said, "Version 1.0 of GrokiPedia will be ten times better than Wikipedia. I believe even the current version 0.1 is more accurate than Wikipedia." Musk explained that the platform is completely free and open-source. Anyone can use it without logging in. He also announced that his chatbot, Grok, will no longer use Wikipedia as a reference, but will instead pull information from GrokiPedia.
GrokiPedia was accused of plagiarism just hours after its launch
According to The Verge report, many articles on GrokiPedia are directly copied from Wikipedia. In many cases, the platform itself displays the message – “The content is adapted from Wikipedia.” Lauren Dickinson, spokesperson for the Wikimedia Foundation, said – “Wikipedia's strength lies in its transparency, volunteer monitoring, and continuous improvement. Even AI platforms like GrokiPedia rely on Wikipedia content.”
Even though the launch was mired in controversy, there's a growing buzz in the tech world that GrokiPedia could break new ground in AI-based information. According to Elon Musk, version 1.0 will be launched in the coming months, adding features like user interface improvements, content verification, and multi-language support.
