New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has launched a major operation against terrorism under the name ‘Operation Sindoor’. Alongside this, strict action is also being taken against illegal infiltrators residing in the country. According to government sources, since the operation began last month, thousands of illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been deported back to their country.

According to a report, nearly 2,000 infiltrators have been sent back across the border so far, and the operation is still ongoing. Reports have also emerged of rising tensions along the India-Bangladesh border during this process.

A report by The Indian Express, citing government sources, stated that since Operation Sindoor began on May 7, Indian authorities have deported more than 2,000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Before this, a verification process had been initiated across the country. Sources said that due to fear of the ongoing crackdown, over 2,000 infiltrators voluntarily approached the border area.

In the report, a government source said: "This process is ongoing. Documents are being verified and action is being taken against them, especially in states that are major economic centers. Since the launch of Operation Sindoor, the process has accelerated. It began in Gujarat, Delhi, and Haryana, and will soon be expanded to other states."

According to the information, about half of those deported were from Gujarat. In addition, a significant number were sent back from Delhi and Haryana. Illegal migrants have also been apprehended in Assam, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Sources further said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued guidelines in this regard and the state governments are fully cooperating. According to officials, the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) are also assisting in this operation.

Sources said that the process is progressing rapidly in states like Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya. The report, quoting sources, stated that infiltrators caught from various states are being transported to the India-Bangladesh border using Indian Air Force aircraft. There, they are handed over to the BSF (Border Security Force), which places them in temporary camps. After being held for a few hours, they are deported to Bangladesh via the border.
