Big News: Massive Fire Erupts in Diesel-Laden Goods Train, Train Services Disrupted
Tiruvallur(The Uttam Hindu): A massive fire broke out early Tuesday morning in a goods train carrying diesel near Tiruvallur, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing widespread panic. The incident has severely affected train traffic to and from Chennai.
According to reports, the diesel-laden goods train was en route from Manali to Tirupati when flames engulfed four wagons of the train. Authorities quickly detached the remaining coaches to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Videos circulating on social media show intense flames and thick smoke rising high above the tracks. The fire reportedly started in the early hours, and emergency services, including teams from the fire and rescue department, rushed to the scene to douse the flames. Firefighting operations are still underway.
Following the incident, Southern Railway issued an official alert. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the zone said:
“Train Service Alert! Due to a fire incident near Tiruvallur, overhead power supply has been switched off as a safety precaution. Train operations have been affected and diverted. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates before travel.”
Several trains departing from or arriving in Chennai have been either cancelled or delayed as the rail lines remain blocked. Efforts to clear the tracks and restore normal train operations are ongoing. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
