Baba Mahakal’s special bhang adornment draws massive crowds on Rama Ekadashi
Ujjain (The Uttam Hindu): Rama Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month is being celebrated across the country on Friday. The auspicious time for Ekadashi began on Thursday and will continue until 11:12 am on Friday. On the special occasion of Rama Ekadashi, Baba Mahakal of Ujjain was adorned with cannabis. Baba's three eyes were made from cannabis, and a crowd of devotees was seen at the temple to have darshan.
There was a long queue of devotees during the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal on Friday morning. After the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal, he was anointed with milk, curd, ghee, sugar, Panchamrit and fruit juice and after that Baba was adorned in his divine form. According to the temple priest Pandit Mahesh Sharma, today's adornment of Baba is very special because Baba was adorned with cannabis. Baba's three eyes were made from cannabis and Tripund was applied on his forehead. Along with this, a new crown and Rudraksha and Mund Mala were worn. Baba's form was so captivating that the devotees kept on gazing at him.
A long line of devotees was seen to have the darshan of Baba's divine form. The devotees saw Baba after the decoration and the entire temple premises echoed with the chants of 'Jai Shri Mahakal'. The belief of this form of Baba is very unique. It is said that after the Bhasma Aarti, after the decoration, Baba gives darshan to the devotees from formless to physical form. During Bhasma Aarti, women have to wear veil because Baba is in formless form. After the decoration, both men and women can have his darshan.
It should be noted that Baba is adorned in a different way every day, and devotees come from far and wide to have his darshan. Baba's Bhasma Aarti takes place at 4 a.m., and the ashes are always offered to him by the Mahanirvani Akhara. Following the Bhasma Aarti, Baba is adorned, after which devotees take turns to have darshan.
The Ujjain Mahakal Temple is highly revered. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India, where the Shivalinga faces south, which is considered beneficial for the fulfillment of wishes. Devotees come from far and wide to visit Baba to fulfill their desires.
