Bhasma Aarti at Mahakal! Baba Vishwanath Adorned with Golden Crown – Watch the Divine Darshan LIVE
Ujjain(The Uttam Hindu): Ujjain witnessed a massive influx of devotees on the second Monday of the holy month of Sawan as thousands thronged temples to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. From the early hours of the day, the chants of “Bam Bam Bhole” and “Har Har Mahadev” echoed through the city, filling the atmosphere with divine energy. At the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, the doors were opened as early as 2:30 AM for special rituals, beginning with the sacred Bhasma Aarti.
Before the Bhasma Aarti, Lord Mahakal was bathed with pure water and offered the traditional Maha Panchamrit Abhishek, which included milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Following the ritual bath, the deity was adorned with bhang and sandalwood paste, beautifully decorated, and dressed in special attire before being offered sacred ash (bhasma).
As part of the Sawan celebrations, the historic Mahakal Sawari (procession) holds immense spiritual significance. During this grand event, Lord Mahakal is taken out in a royal chariot to bless the city and its devotees. The procession resonates with the beats of traditional drums and nagadas, while devotees chant praises with unwavering devotion. It is believed that this Sawari symbolizes the divine power and glory of Mahakal.
Today’s procession is especially unique as devotees will witness Lord Mahakal in two different forms simultaneously. As Avantikanath, the Lord will ride in a silver palanquin as Chandramouleshwar, while in the form of Manmahesh, He will be seated on an elephant, blessing the devotees in his grand glory.
The month of Shravan is considered most auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva, and it is believed that prayers offered during this time bring immediate relief from sorrows and fulfill wishes. The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, becomes the epicenter of spiritual fervor during this sacred month, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country.
