New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East are taking a serious turn, raising concerns over global energy supply and international stability. Continuous attacks and counter-attacks in the region have made the situation highly sensitive.

Gulf nations approach UN

Several Gulf countries have urged the United Nations and its Human Rights Council to intervene immediately. In a diplomatic note submitted in Geneva, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates expressed deep concern over increasing attacks on civilians and energy infrastructure. They warned that ballistic missile and drone strikes are posing serious security risks and impacting human rights.

Attacks on energy sites raise global concerns

Reports suggest that Iran’s targeting of oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region has increased instability in international markets. Concerns have intensified over the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. Experts believe that any disruption in this passage could severely impact global oil and gas supplies, leading to inflationary pressures worldwide.

Sharp rise in oil and gas prices

Amid rising tensions, global crude oil prices have surged significantly. Brent crude has climbed to around $114 per barrel, compared to below $73 earlier. Natural gas prices have also seen a sharp increase. Attacks on key facilities, including a major gas site in Qatar and refineries in Kuwait, have further deepened fears of a prolonged energy crisis.

Demand for urgent action

In a draft resolution proposed by Gulf nations, the attacks have been strongly condemned, and Iran has been urged to immediately stop targeting civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels. The proposal also calls for compensation for damages caused. The United Nations is now considering scheduling an emergency debate on the issue.

Global impact feared

Experts warn that if the situation does not improve soon, the consequences will not remain limited to the Middle East but could lead to global economic instability and rising inflation.
