Fire breaks out at Dhaka airport; blaze in cargo terminal halts all flights

Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Panic gripped Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on Saturday afternoon when a massive fire broke out in the airport's cargo terminal. Due to the severity of the fire, all flight operations from the airport have been temporarily suspended.


According to reports, the fire broke out in the cargo terminal around 2:15 p.m. Airport firefighters, Air Force fire units, and other rescue agencies were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines spokesperson Kausar Mahmud stated that all relevant agencies immediately responded to the fire. He added that a joint operation is underway to control the fire.


According to officials, all flights have been suspended as a precautionary measure. At the time of writing, efforts to control the fire were ongoing. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
