Chaos on Live TV: Anchor flees Studio as Israeli Missiles Strike during live Broadcast
Damascus (The Uttam Hindu): Amidst the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel has now carried out a major attack in Syria. On Wednesday, the Israeli army caused a sensation by attacking the entry gate of the Defense Ministry complex in the Syrian capital Damascus with a drone. After this attack, tensions in the Middle East are expected to increase further.
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has confirmed responsibility for the attack. The IDF said the action was taken in response to violence against Druze civilians in the Druze-dominated city of Swaida in southern Syria. In a statement, the IDF said, "We targeted the entrance to the Syrian regime's military headquarters complex in Damascus. We are closely monitoring the actions against Druze civilians in southern Syria and are committed to ensuring their safety."
This is the third consecutive day that Israel has attacked Syrian territory. Earlier also, several air strikes have been carried out in Sweida and its surrounding areas. On Wednesday also, there were reports of heavy shelling with mortars and artillery between government forces and local Druze fighters in the city of Sweida and surrounding villages. According to the local news portal Sweida24, sounds of heavy firing and explosions were heard in many areas of Sweida since morning.
Sources in the Syrian Defense Ministry have reported that the ministry was attacked by at least two drones, after which officials took refuge in the basement of the ministry. Meanwhile, Syria's state news agency (SANA) has confirmed that two civilians were injured in the attack.
The attack comes at a time when Israel is already fighting a fierce dual-front war against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. A direct attack on Syria threatens to further spread this conflict.
