Trump celebrates Diwali at the White House, calls PM Modi and makes a special remark

Washington (ThevUttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump celebrated Diwali at the White House. He hosted a special event at the White House to mark Diwali. President Trump called Prime Minister Modi to wish him a happy Diwali.


PM Modi shared his conversation with President Trump on the social media platform X and thanked him. "President Trump, thank you for your phone call and warm Diwali wishes. On this festival of lights, may our two great democracies continue to be a beacon of hope to the world and stand united against terrorism in all its forms," PM Modi wrote.


The White House event was attended by Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra, the new US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, FBI Director Kash Patel and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Prominent business leaders from the Indian community also attended the event.


Trump lit a lamp in the Oval Office, calling it a "symbol of faith in the triumph of light over darkness." He also extended his "heartfelt greetings to the people of India."


He added, "It is the victory of knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. During Diwali, people remember old stories of the defeat of enemies, the removal of obstacles and the liberation of captives. The glow of the diya's flame reminds us to follow the path of knowledge, work diligently and always be thankful for our many blessings."


The Indian Ambassador thanked President Trump for opening the White House to celebrate the festival of Diwali. He said, "Mr. President, first of all, I express my deep gratitude to you for opening your home, the White House, the Oval Office, for the Diwali Festival of Lights. You are demonstrating the power of diversity through this celebration. So, this is truly a great honor. On behalf of my Prime Minister and me, warm greetings to you and your loved ones, especially to the more than 5 million Indian diaspora in the United States, Happy Diwali. We wish that the light of Diwali continues to shine on your success and the strength of India."


FBI Director Kash Patel, one of the most prominent Indian Americans serving in the Trump administration, praised Trump for celebrating Diwali at the White House, saying, "It's an honor to be a first-generation Indian-American. Under your leadership, millions of Americans are living that dream, and celebrating Diwali here in the Oval Office is what you spoke about... the triumph of good over evil. It's an incredible honor. Indian Americans around the world, Indians around the world, are thrilled that you are such a brilliant leader sharing this diversity with the world."


Speaking to the media, Trump claimed that he had spoken to Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday and said, "I spoke to Prime Minister Modi today. We had a very good conversation. We talked about business. We talked about many things but mostly about the business world. He's very interested in it."


President Trump reiterated that he has been assured that India will not buy more oil from Russia. He said, "We have a very good relationship and he is not going to buy more oil from Russia. He wants to see the war between Russia and Ukraine end."
