Washington (Uttam Hindu News): US President Donald Trump has put his own industry in the dock with another major statement. This time, he sharply criticized the American chip-making industry. Furthermore, he defended his support for H-1B migrant workers by making the surprising argument that Americans "don't know how to make microchips."

Trump's statement comes as the US is trying to rebuild its domestic semiconductor chip industry. He said the American workforce lacks the technical skills needed for semiconductor manufacturing, a vital industry.

Trump said, "America doesn't make a lot of chips anymore. If you're going to make chips, we have to train our people to make them, because we've very foolishly lost the chip business to Taiwan." However, Trump claimed that the sector would make a major comeback in the US and predicted growth in domestic production within a few years.

Interestingly, Trump rejected the CHIPS Act of 2022, which aimed to boost American manufacturing. “The CHIPS Act was a disaster,” Trump said. “All the chip companies are coming back, and probably most of the chip manufacturing in the world will be in America.”

Trump's statement has sparked heated political debate in the US, drawing criticism from his Republican allies. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said in a post on November 13 that Republicans hold a majority in Congress and could enact legislation to end the H-1B program. He sarcastically remarked, "It's not words that matter here, but actions."

Meanwhile, another official reminded Trump that the two people credited with inventing the microchip were Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce, American engineers working on American soil.

Despite these criticisms, Trump appeared to stand by his outlook on the industry. He said, "The good news is everything is coming back. It should have been here (in America) all along.
