New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In today’s fast-paced life, mental restlessness, fear, anxiety, sleeplessness and stress have become common problems. Excessive mobile use, work pressure and worries about the future leave people mentally exhausted. To deal with this, the Ministry of AYUSH recommends practicing yoga. Among the many yogic mudras, Kali Mudra is considered effective in maintaining balance between mental and physical health. According to AYUSH, this mudra strengthens the body from within, lightens mental burden, reduces negative thinking and boosts self-confidence.

According to yogic science, the body has energy channels known as nadis. Among them, the Sushumna Nadi, which runs along the spine, is considered the most important. When energy flows smoothly through this channel, the mind remains calm and the body stays balanced. Kali Mudra is believed to help clear and activate this energy flow. Regular practice helps reduce mental confusion and improves focus and concentration.

Physically, Kali Mudra improves the breathing process. Deep inhalation and exhalation strengthen the lungs and improve oxygen circulation in the body. This helps reduce stiffness and fatigue. People who sit for long hours or experience tension-related body tightness may gradually feel relief. Improved blood circulation makes the body feel lighter and more relaxed.

From a mental health perspective, Kali Mudra is considered to have a deep impact. Today, both children and adults face some form of mental pressure. This mudra helps clear mental fog, enhance concentration and strengthen decision-making ability. It is also considered beneficial for students and those preparing for exams.

On an emotional level, Kali Mudra helps release feelings of fear, anger and restlessness. Regular practice makes the mind feel lighter and brings emotional balance. The practitioner begins to feel more stable and secure from within.

Spiritually, Kali Mudra is associated with the Muladhara Chakra and the Manipura Chakra. The Muladhara Chakra connects a person to the ground and provides a sense of security, while the Manipura Chakra is linked to inner strength and confidence. Activating these chakras through Kali Mudra is believed to enhance courage, stability and positive thinking.

Practicing Kali Mudra is simple. It can be done while sitting in Sukhasana or standing in Tadasana. Interlock the fingers of both hands and keep the index fingers straight and pointing upward. Inhale slowly, and while exhaling, mentally let go of negative thoughts. Beginners can practice for two to three minutes, gradually increasing the duration over time.
